EMPLOYER ALERT: NEW STREAMLINED I-9 FORM BECAME MANDATORY ON NOVEMBER 1, 2023

Employers must verify the identity and employment authorization of each individual they hire for employment in the United States. Earlier this year the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it would be streamlining elements of Form I-9, which is used to verify a worker’s eligibility for employment in the United States.
The new form has been reorganized to increase ease of use, simplify and reduce instructions, and modernize the process for remote workers, among other changes. The permanent ability for eligible employers to remotely verify employees is likely to have the most positive impact on employers.
Effective this month, employers must use the new form, either through traditional submission or by E-Verify. New forms and information about completing Form I-9 are available here.
