One of the most beautiful golf courses I have ever seen, and I got to share the pleasure of playing here with my wife.

Since becoming a legal assistant, 35 years ago, I’ve been collecting pencils from places I have traveled and from places my co-workers have traveled. They are from all over the world, each with a unique shape and all are a reminder that everything we do in life will leave a mark, so I try to be conscious of that in my everyday actions.

Kathy Rhotenberry

While I have resigned myself to the reality that I will never be the golfer I want to be, I have been fortunate enough to play (albeit poorly) some of the most beautiful courses in the world.

This shillelagh, an Irish club, was given to me by a grateful client after prevailing in a tough case. It reminds me that regardless of the outcome, to always give it my best.

Each of my boys has a copy of this “Warrior Weekend” Bible from the father-son retreats that we have attended together at Sky Ranch, where I am honored to serve as a member of the board of directors. Working with and representing Sky Ranch and similar Christian organizations is the heart of my law practice.

Nothing prepared me for my career as a trial attorney better than my eight years of high school and college football. The game has taught me valuable lessons about toughness, work ethic, teamwork, poise, and humility. Especially humility. Thankfully, these are lessons I now get to pass on to my two sons while helping coach their football teams.

Unloading salmon out of the holds of Alaskan fishing vessels all day and many nights over a summer between college semesters taught me not only the value of getting an education, but also that successfully completing a task usually requires rolling up your sleeves, getting your boots dirty, and not stopping until the job is done.

Spending time in both urban and rural India opened my eyes to the strength and hospitality of its people, the richness (and spiciness!) of its cuisine, and a greater awareness that despite many cultural differences, the people from two very different countries have much that can be learned from one another.

While many siblings spend their formative years fighting, my brother and I grew up spending most of our weekends and breaks playing video games with each other (there was still some fighting, too). Little did we know then that games would create such a close bond between us, and continue to provide a timeless form of entertainment.

One of the best and hardest things I have done was to commit, train, and participate in the Capital to Coast, a relay race from Austin to Corpus Christi. 14 women, 2 vans, 223 miles, 37 hours, and a lifetime of memories!

I used to spend hours at the record store looking for hidden gems. Now a days I don’t have time to burn looking through vinyls but still enjoy listening to them as often as I can.

Starting when I was young, my family and friends instilled in me a love of the outdoors. Hunting and fishing are about preparation and patience, being alert and ready. Skills that come in handy in litigation and trial, too. Hunting and fishing are family traditions that I am now blessed to share with my children.
