Character Matters®

When talent and character come together, great things happen. We approach every client, witness, and opposing counsel with respect, and every case with uncompromising focus, hard work, and integrity. This is not a goal, but an expectation. We seek well-rounded citizens with high moral values and ethics that harmonize with our firm’s Core Values. We look for team members who have shown a history of grit, ingenuity, tenacity, creativity, reliability, and problem-solving skills.

Servant Leadership

Great teams are comprised of great teammates. Brown Fox seeks professionals who first ask, “How can I help you?” Additionally, our In the Community focus and annual 50-hour pro bono hour credit provide excellent opportunities to serve the less fortunate and our community.

The top intersections of my talent and desire are marathon swimming and storytelling, so telling stories about swimming is pretty much the pinnacle of my existence. If you really want to know the best part of me, buy me a beer and ask me about the time I won the 20 Bridges Marathon Swim around Manhattan Island for my fiftieth birthday.

Starting when I was young, my family and friends instilled in me a love of the outdoors. Hunting and fishing are about preparation and patience, being alert and ready. Skills that come in handy in litigation and trial, too. Hunting and fishing are family traditions that I am now blessed to share with my children.

I will always carry my African and Congolese identity with pride.

Through the Dallas Junior League, I’ve learned so much about the city I grew up in! Teaming up with inspiring and empowering women to give back to the local Dallas community continues to be one of the most enriching and fulfilling experiences.

Since Ellis was born our friends have been asking whether she will ride horses or play soccer. As soon as she could walk I registered my vote.

Nothing prepared me for my career as a trial attorney better than my eight years of high school and college football. The game has taught me valuable lessons about toughness, work ethic, teamwork, poise, and humility. Especially humility. Thankfully, these are lessons I now get to pass on to my two sons while helping coach their football teams.

Carved into this walking stick given to me by my father are various images of memorable events, words, and scenes of my life and other moments that we shared together.  I am grateful for my family and one of my goals as an attorney is to serve my clients with the same high level of care and responsiveness that I would provide to my own family.

While some say the pen is mightier than the sword, my son Peter disagrees.  But together, we enjoy using our own swords (or “chisels”) to craft pens and other wooden objects on a lathe.

Since becoming a legal assistant, 35 years ago, I’ve been collecting pencils from places I have traveled and from places my co-workers have traveled. They are from all over the world, each with a unique shape and all are a reminder that everything we do in life will leave a mark, so I try to be conscious of that in my everyday actions.

I have been passionate about the sport of ice hockey as a fan and player for as long as I can recall. I still play the game and it has taught me many lessons about sacrifice, teamwork and work ethic that I can bring to bear on all aspects of my life. The game has given me more than I could ever imagine.

Without the sacrifices of my family, I could never have become a trial lawyer. My ancestors tilled and cultivated the dirt of southern New Mexico and found work serving the needs of a small, desert town. My grandmother’s toy horse—a present from a ranch hand to his daughter—reminds me of the gifts I have received from my family’s hard work.

Bonnie, Audrey, Constance and Chloe.  The three leaves represent me, my daughter, Constance, and my granddaughter, Chloe.  We all come from the stem which represents my mom, Bonnie. This THING called LIFE is so beautiful!
