Cort Thomas Appointed Receiver in SEC Real Estate Fraud Case

The Securities and Exchange Commission recently brought an action against Timothy Barton, Haoqiang Fu (a/k/a Michael Fu), Stephen Wall, and several related LLCs for alleged securities fraud surrounding certain real estate investments. The U.S. District Court approved the SEC’s Motion to Appoint a Receiver and appointed Cort Thomas to serve as Receiver for the estates of the entities placed in receivership. Cort Thomas is a business and commercial litigator who frequently serves as a Receiver, most recently in the case styled SEC v. Gallagher (more information available here). Mr. Thomas also served on the trial team that recently secured a $4.5 million jury verdict on behalf of a partner who had withdrawn from the partnership in 2015.
