Alan Carrillo Moderates Act Young Professionals Gathering

On August 1, Brown Fox’s Alan Carrillo led a conversation with Act founder and CEO Reid Porter along with some of Act’s staff at the organization’s “Young Professionals Happy Hour.” The event gathered scores of young professionals across various industries at Act’s headquarters in downtown Dallas, where they learned how Act helps residents fight crime using the civil justice system. Since 2009, Act and its pro-bono partner law firms have served 368 clients to resolve 228 criminal properties in Dallas and Fort Worth.

Mr. Porter shared about Act’s founding, vision, and mission to make neighborhood safety a normal reality for everyone. Mr. Carrillo spoke about his experience representing Dallas and Fort Worth residents asserting private civil-nuisance claims against neighboring property owners who commit or ignore criminal activity on their properties.

“It is an honor to serve Act and our clients in Dallas and Fort Worth, and it is always a privilege to introduce fellow members of the Dallas business community, especially young professionals, to Act and its work.”

“Act is approached by residents who are desperate to bring peace and safety to their homes, streets, and neighborhoods,” Mr. Carrillo said. “Act fearlessly serves them by partnering with attorneys who will speak for neighbors who may not be able to speak for themselves, and by engaging financial supporters who make that advocacy possible. It is an honor to serve Act and our clients in Dallas and Fort Worth, and it is always a privilege to introduce fellow members of the Dallas business community, especially young professionals, to Act and its work.”

Brown Fox has partnered with Act, both as a pro-bono partner law firm and financial supporter, since the founding of the firm. Managing Partner Russ Brown and Mr. Carrillo serve on Act’s Advisory Board, and Mr. Carrillo also co-chairs Act’s young professionals advisory board—the Justice Leadership Council. In 2019, Mr. Brown chaired the Act Fall Benefit at Moody Performance Hall.
