Brown Fox’s Russ Brown and his wife Renee have agreed to chair the Act’s annual benefit at Moody Performance Hall. Act is a ministry that uses the justice system to empower inner city residents to fight crime on their street, while sharing the hope of the gospel. Act’s innovative model and work have made an incredible impact in target neighborhoods, including a significant reduction of crime and drug houses and a dramatic increase in the quality of life for families. Act’s mission is to: (1) reduce the number of drug houses in a focus neighborhood; (2) restrict the criminal networks in the neighborhood from expanding, and (3)restore hope and dignity necessary to sustain a healthy community.

“We are utterly honored to serve in this role for such an impactful, trusted ministry,” shared Russ Brown. “Their team does an amazing job working with the City of Dallas, Dallas Police Department, neighborhood associations and churches, law firms, and volunteers to shut down dangerous properties used for drug distribution and prostitution and make neighborhoods safer. Act’s ability to bring together collaborative forces to tackle injustice is simply incredible and their efforts are making a permanent, positive impact on what once were extremely dangerous neighborhood streets.”

Act partners with law firms like Brown Fox, and works with these firms and neighborhood residents to hold the owners of dilapidated properties and drug houses accountable. Act has shut down over 100 drug houses in the past decade in five target neighborhoods. In the first target neighborhood, there has been a documented 65% reduction in crime. Next year Act is launching Vision 2030, with a plan to expand its work from 2.5 square miles to over 88 square miles in the Dallas area.

We are utterly honored to serve in this role for such an impactful, trusted ministry…
Along with co-chairing the Fall Benefit, Mr. Brown serves on Act’s Advisory Board and wrote a column for Dallas Morning News regarding Act’s work in West Dallas. Brown Fox partners David Denton and Scott Self have successfully resolved several Act cases on a pro bono basis. Mr. Brown added, “It’s our hope that as Act’s footprint continues to grow, our attorneys will be afforded many more opportunities to volunteer their legal skills to take on crime and injustice, and help make Dallas neighborhoods safer.”
