The Securities and Exchange Commission recently brought an action against Timothy Barton, Haoqiang Fu (a/k/a Michael Fu), Stephen Wall, and several related LLCs for alleged securities fraud surrounding certain real estate investments.  The U.S. District Court approved the SEC’s Motion to Appoint a Receiver and appointed Cort Thomas to serve as Receiver for the estates of the entities placed in receivership.  Learn more about the allegations in the underlying case by reading the U.S Department of Justice’s release here and the SEC’s release here.

Cort Thomas is a business and commercial litigator who frequently serves as a Receiver, most recently in the case styled SEC v. Gallagher (more information available here).  Mr. Thomas also served on the trial team that recently secured a $4.5 million jury verdict on behalf of a partner who had withdrawn from the partnership in 2015.
