Brown Fox was pleased to continue its support of the Northern District of Texas Bench Bar Conference in 2025. The Dallas and Fort Worth Chapters of the Federal Bar Association (FBA) hosted the eighth annual conference on April 11, 2025 in Las Colinas.

Bench Bar Conference Co-Chair, Alan Carrillo

As the FBA Dallas Chapter President since 2023, Senior Associate Alan Carrillo has co-chaired the conference for three consecutive years. This year, Mr. Carrillo helped lead the 60-member host committee organizing the conference and again offered the conference’s opening and closing remarks.

The 2025 Northern District of Texas Bench Bar Conference’s theme was “The Anatomy of a NDTX Trial.” The event featured 65 speakers and 16 panels and speeches, and it welcomed over 600 attendees. More information and photos from the conference can be found here.

“This year, two fundamental goals guided our dedicated Host Committee,” Mr. Carrillo wrote in the conference program. “The first was to bring the bench and bar together from the vast reaches of our District to emphasize that although we serve in seven divisions, we are one Northern District of Texas. The second was to offer practical, useful, and informative NDTX-specific content by showcasing out District’s tremendous judicial and legal talent.” As FBA Dallas Chapter President, Mr. Carrillo has also offered public commentary in support of the local federal court, including in a recent op-ed in The Dallas Morning News.

Partner Cort Thomas

Brown Fox was also honored to sponsor the fourth annual Northern District of Texas Law Clerk Reunion, which the FBA Dallas and Fort Worth chapters hosted the evening before the conference. Sponsored by 23 law firms, the reunion welcomed nearly 150 current and former Northern District of Texas judges and former, current, and future Northern District of Texas law clerks.

Partner Cort Thomas and Mr. Carrillo, who both clerked for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas in Dallas, attended the reunion. Mr. Carrillo served as an inaugural term law clerk to U.S. District Judge Brantley Starr from 2019 to 2020. Mr. Thomas, who chaired the inaugural bench bar conference as the FBA’s Dallas Chapter President in 2017 and continues to serve on the FBA Dallas Chapter board, served as a term law clerk to U.S. District Judge Jane J. Boyle from 2010 to 2011.

Brown Fox litigation attorneys, including Mr. Thomas and Mr. Carrillo, regularly serve as lead and local counsel in civil cases in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas.
