Called dandia in Gujarati, these sticks are used in a traditional Indian folk dance celebrating the Hindu holiday Navrati. Dandia represent the wealth of culture and tradition central to my upbringing, and further embody my love of dancing. The resemblance to drum sticks is a nod to my years as a percussionist.
