Long-Time U.S. Department of Justice Attorney Brings Significant Tax Controversy and Counseling Experience
Joshua Smeltzer, a tax attorney with over fifteen years of experience, has joined Brown Fox as a partner. Mr. Smeltzer brings to the firm a breadth of experience and behind-the-scenes knowledge from fourteen years with the Department of Justice in Dallas and Washington, D.C. His experience includes basic day to day tax counseling, acting as lead counsel in jury trials, and once handling a billion-dollar case on behalf of the U.S. government.
Mr. Smeltzer’s arrival fills a void the firm has sought to fill for some time. Managing Partner Russ Brown shared, “Our law firm is built to address the most common and pressing legal issues our clients face on a daily basis. We have needed in-house tax expertise for quite some time. Picking up a talent like Joshua allows the firm to provide day-to-day tax advice, but also critically important representation of our clients when they face tax controversies with the IRS. His experience on both sides of tax matters will be invaluable to our clients.”
Litigation Partner Cort Thomas added, “Joshua is the perfect fit to get our tax practice off the ground and running. As someone who has known Joshua for many years—and admired his work from afar—I cannot think of a better fit for a talented, character-first tax lawyer to join our team.”
